What Disney Means to Me Right Now | A Queer Travel Planner's Perspective

By Jenna Caron

Disney has meant a million different things to me at different stages of my life — comfort, excitement, escape, nostalgia — but right now, in this chapter? Disney feels like the one place where all the little pieces of myself can finally breathe together without bumping into each other.

I’m Jenna the Disney adult, Jenna the queer creator, Jenna the travel planner, Jenna who gets overly emotional about fireworks, and Jenna who lives very far away in Canada but somehow still feels most at home on Main Street U.S.A. Disney is the rare space where none of that feels contradictory or “too much.” I feel allowed to show up exactly as I am.

There’s something about walking into a park that switches on the softest part of my brain. The music loops start playing, the popcorn smell floats through the air, cast members are already in full cheer mode, and suddenly I’m not thinking about my to-do list or deadlines. I’m just… present. And honestly? That’s something adulthood does not give us nearly enough.

As a queer woman, it’s also one of the only mainstream places where I’ve consistently felt safe being openly myself. That’s not something I take lightly. Being able to hold Tasha's hand, take photos, laugh loudly, and exist comfortably in a space that’s full of families and joy — it’s huge. It makes me love Disney deeper.

And creatively? Disney is my home base. I don’t share it because I “have” to or because it’s a niche — I share it because it genuinely lights me up. It’s where I feel most like a storyteller. It’s where I feel connected to people from all over. It’s where I feel inspired to create without forcing it, and where I can share the magic with you at home.

Right now, Disney is my cozy corner of the internet, my spark, my joy, and the place where Jenna — all versions of her — gets to just… be. ✨
